Henry C. Greeson, Jr.

July 7, 1925 — March 31, 2007

Henry C. Greeson, Jr., 81, of Amity St., Fall River, died Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Care Center. He was the beloved husband of Valdernira "Bella" (Gonsalves) Greeson. Born in Russelleville, Arkansas, the son of the late Henry and Sarah (Hanna) Greeson, he lived in Fall River for the past 60 years. A Navy veteran of WW II, he served aboard the USS Pittsburg engaged in the battle of Iwo Jima. He also served in the Army and was past commander and finance officer of American Legion Post 314, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, past commander of the Fall River War Veterans Council, the 40 & 8 and a former American Legion Baseball Team volunteer. He worked in Wyoming coal mines and was a full time member of the Massachusetts National Guard, A Battery, Dwelly St., Fall River for 32 years. He was the grand marshal of numerous Veterans' Day parades and the chairman of many July 4th. celebration activities at Kennedy Park. Besides his beloved wife of 62 years, he is survived by 2 sons, Robert R. Greeson and his wife Claire of Stuart, Florida and Henry C. Greeson, III, of Fall River; 4 grandchildren, Deri, Robert H., Alicia and Andrea Greeson; a brother, James F. Greeson of Barrington, RI; a sister, Dorothy Baras of Fort Smith, Arkansas; a godchild, Lisa Norvich and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert and Stuart Greeson and Johnny Ferguson. His funeral will be held Tuesday at 8:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in Immaculate Conception Church at 9:00 AM. Burial, Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation, Monday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and barrier-free entrance at the rear of funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veterans Outreach, 755 Pine St., Fall River MA 02720.
