Henry Gillett

Henry Gillett, 87, of Fall River, husband of Mary Jane (Newberry) Gillett and the late Theresa (Barrette) Gillett, died Sunday, June 15, 2014. A veteran of WW II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, Staff Sergeant Gillett served in the Army for 23 years and then was employed by the Fall River Public Works Department and was a Fall River Government Center custodian for many years. A past Senior Vice Commander, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, William S. Greene, Chapter 9, for over 30 years and was a former Fall River War Council Officer of the Day. Besides his wife he leaves 3 children, Louis F. Gillett and his wife Janet and Suzanne Medeiros, all of Fall River and Darlene Sampson and her husband Donald of Dighton, MA; grandchildren, Timothy Gillett, Jeffrey Gillett and his wife Heather and Candice Simcoe and her husband Gerald;5 great-grandchildren, stepchildren, Patricia Durand and her husband Gerard of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Arlene Cabral and Brenda Almeida and her husband John, all of Fall River and Arthur Dias, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Tiverton; many step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, a step-great-great-grandchild; siblings, Roy Gillette and Dorothy Lafleur, both of Fall River and nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Louis and Agnes (Miller) Gillett and the brother of the late Irene Golisbrowski, Elizabeth Foley, Annie Taylor, Clara Harris, Wilfred, George, Earl and Gladys Gillett and James Gillette. His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass at St. Mary Cathedral at 10:00 AM. Burial, Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation, Wednesday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to DAV, Chapter 9, 755 Pine St., Fall River MA 02720.
