Gladys (Wasilowski) Silvia

Gladys (Wasilowski) Silvia, 71, of Palm Bay, FL, formerly of Tiverton, passed away on June 20, 2016.

Daughter of the late Frank and Arlene Wasilowski of Tiverton, RI. Gladys is survived by brothers, Frank, Edward and John Wasilowski. Also sister of deceased Linda Rioux. Gladys is also survived by her children Dennis and Frank Silvia, also deceased children Joseph Silvia and Arlene Berard of Fall River. Gladys is also survived by her grandchildren Stephanie Linhares, Dennis Silvia, Jr., Frank Silvia, Jr., Mark Silvia and Tiffany Berard. Also several great-grandchildren and her pets "Muffy" and "Tweety".

Now retired from BCC of Fall River where she served as Campus Police Officer for Bristol Community College from 1986 until her retirement in April of 2008. Gladys was the second shift supervisor whose attendance record speaks for itself. In her last five years of employment she went through many personal problems. With the loss of her daughter to cancer, Gladys felt it was time to retire and move to Florida. Gladys stated that life was too short and where it hurt to leave BCC she felt it was time to move on to a second life; and that was retirement. She had the opportunity to reside in Florida with her family for the last eight years.

Gladys' work ethic for herself and department was not to call the chief for every little thing that happened on campus. She felt most situations could be handled by her and her shift. She handled every situation professionally and she always kept constant communication with her supervisor. During her 22 year career with BCC she was called upon to be Acting Chief on occasion while the College was looking for a permanent Campus Police Chief. Whatever the case might be Gladys served her position well and was missed. May she rest in peace.

Her funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 So. Main St., Fall River. Interment, Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation, Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Large parking area & barrier-free entrance at the rear of funeral home.
