Gertrude T. (Morris) Cooper

August 12, 1916 — August 28, 2014

Gertrude T. (Morris) Cooper, 98, formerly of Borden Place East, Fall River, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014. She was the widow of Russell T. Cooper, Victor Aubry and Kenneth W. Ashton. Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late William S. and Maude A. (Burrows) Morris, she was the sister of the late Ernest E. Morris and William "Chet" Morris and Frances M. Gardella. A graduate of BMC Durfee High School, Class of 1934, she was a longtime employee of the former Fall River Trust Co. Very active in the community, she was former Treasures of the South Somerset Improvement Assn., past-president and treasurer of the Niagara Seniors, past-president of the Borden Place East Tenant Council, former treasurer of Local 485, AARP, former assistant secretary of the Senior Senate and a former director of the Massachusetts Senior Action Council. She was an avid Red Sox fan. Mrs. Cooper is survived by her son, Kenneth W. Ashton and his wife Sharon of Carmel Valley, CA, her daughter, Russlyn C. Langlais and her husband Andre of Fall River; grandchildren, Catherine Lambert, Molly Penney and Rebecca McComb, all of Fall River; a grandson, Joshua Ashton and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving Mrs. Cooper are a niece, Barbara Tounsend and a nephew, Ernest E. Morris, J. both of Maine. Following cremation, her graveside service will be held Friday, September 5 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Cemetery, 2233 Robeson St., Fall River, Plat-Section 22. Please omit flowers.
