Gerald A. "Jerry" Simard

Gerald A. "Jerry" Simard, 77, of Somerset, formerly of Tiverton, loving husband of Marilyn (Carrington) Simard, entered into rest Sunday, January 17, 2016. He was also the husband of the late Jacqueline (Costa) Simard and the former husband of Patricia (Calnan) Simard of Tiverton. He served in the Army and the Massachusetts Army National Guard during the Vietnam War and was a Life Member of AMVETS, Fall River and Knights of Columbus, Tiverton. A graduate of St. Anne School, Msgr. James Coyle High School and UMass, Dartmouth, he was a Rhode Island State Police Civilian Employee and Business Agent for J. F. Moran Trucking Co., Smithfield, RI. A loving father and grandfather, the joy of his life was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Besides his wife of 29 years, he leaves five children, Karen LaFleur (husband Roger) of Fall River, Laurie Rodriques (husband Elliott) of Tiverton, Susan Simard of Tiverton, Steven G. Simard (Traci Almeida) of Fall River and Christine Ciabattoni (husband Joseph) of Tiverton; stepchildren, James Medeiros (wife Susan) of Swansea, Lisa Rogers (husband David) of Somerset and David Medeiros of Fall River; 12 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Lorraine Rousseau of Portsmouth, RI and nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Edward and Blanche (Collard) Simard; the brother of the late Raymond Simard and Claire Melanson and the stepfather of the late Thomas Medeiros. His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:45 a.m. from the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass at St. Thomas More Church, Somerset at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Visitation, Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Large parking area & barrier-free entrance at the rear of funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Step Inn, 175 No. Main St., Fall River MA 02720 or Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Ave. # 2, Norwood MA 02062.
