George Vetos

December 27, 1928 — August 20, 2008

George Vetos, 79 of Riverside Ave., Somerset, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008. A class of 1947 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, and a National Guard veteran of the Korean War, he was employed by Swift & Co. for 18 years and by Kocon Beef for 25 years. A champion bowler, Mr. Vetos and the late Thomas Fitzgerald won the 1955 National Duckpin Doubles Championship, in competition with sixteen hundred bowlers. A member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, he enjoyed visiting Foxwoods with his friend Romeo Simon of Fall River. He was the son of the late Christ and Christina (Pavlopoulos) Vetos; the brother of Andre C. Vetos of Somerset; the stepbrother of William Avramides of Cranston, RI, formerly of Fall River, Rev. Stephen Avramides of Athens, Greece and Anna Angelis of Seattle, WA; the dear friend of Sue and Tom Fitzgerald, Jr. and the godfather of Tom Fitzgerald, III, all of Swansea; the brother-in-law of the late Juliette (Souza) Leonard Vetos and the step-uncle of Jeff Leonard of Louisville, KY. His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral service in St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, No. Main St., at 10:00 AM. Burial, Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation, Monday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 502 Bedford St., Fall River MA 02720.
