George Hague, Jr.

August 21, 1939 — January 15, 2021

After a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia, George Hague of Quincy MA passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021 in Weymouth MA.

George began his professional career in the electrical industry when he was 14, helping his dad with the family contracting business. George went on to become a licensed master electrician, and the industry became his passion.  George’s early business ventures included GEMCO Electrical in Fall River MA and George Hague Electrical in Middleboro MA. In 1984 he joined ICS Electric in Weymouth MA when he and the company’s owner, Irv Small, purchased an estimating program to aid in George’s plans to win projects and help the company grow. The software they purchased was George’s introduction to computers and computer software. After helping jump-start ICS, George moved to Londonderry NH to join Piquette & Howard Electric in Lawrence MA as lead estimator. Shortly after joining P&H Electric, George began conducting 15-hour electrical code review seminars for electrical license renewal requirements in MA, NH, ME and VT.  He went on to become one of the largest providers of the mandatory continuing education program in the four New England states.

While providing continuing education through code review courses and teaching Electric I & II for ABC in Massachusetts, George began providing estimating services to area contractors using the estimating program he had purchased from the owner of ICS Electric. As he learned more about computers and emerging technology, in 1988 he began designing an estimating program that he felt better met his needs as an estimator and created what would become his greatest career achievement, ConEst Software Systems. His estimating program, IntelliBid, encapsulated George’s estimating philosophy and changed an industry’s way of estimating.  His visionary talents led him to create software for bid and project management, time and material billing, and many more solutions to help contractors better manage their bids and projects. He then formed a partnership with Bill Floyd, Keith Peck and Scott Schwartz to create NetPricer, an online material pricing service.  After acquiring SureCount software, a program that reads digital drawings, from Jim Pacente, George formed a partnership with Suresh Sharma to redesign and enhance SureCount.  All of the programs George designed and created were intertwined to work seamlessly for the end user.

George’s accomplishments benefited countless electrical contracting businesses throughout North America and overseas, a vision that continues to benefit the industry today.  George and his wife sold the companies and retired in 2017.

Away from the office, George and his wife spent weekends on their boat, from enjoying whale watching off the coast of Massachusetts to overnight trips from Provincetown MA to Portsmouth NH.

George is survived by his wife, Janice Thayer, of Quincy MA. He is also survived by his daughters Doreen Mooney and her husband Michael of Taunton MA, Cynthia Hardsog of Fall River MA, and Shari Postemski and her husband Ted of Wilmington NC.  George is also survived by his grandchildren Jesse Beaulieu, Casandra Creamer, Jennifer Hardsog, Katelynn Spencer, Kyle Longworth and Connor and Keagan Hague as well as his great grandchildren Jayden Barber, Dominic Haskell, and Jaxon Woodward. George is also survived by his cousin Bruce Hague and his wife Sally of Fall River.
