George A. Chretien

March 20, 1919 — December 20, 2006

George A. Chretien, 87, of Canonicus St., Tiverton, died Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River. He was the husband of the late Beatrice (Poitras) Chretien. Born and raised in Fall River, the son of the late Charles and Florina (Robert) Chretien, he lived in Tiverton most of his life. He was a loom fixer in the Fall River textile industry, a bridge construction surveyor in Galveston, Texas and an oil rigs roughneck off the coast of Louisiana. An Army veteran of WW II, he served with Battery A, 549th. Field Artillery Battalion as a heavy artillery forward observer in France and Germany attaining the rank of Corporal. He was a member of the Tiverton Knights of Columbus. Survivors include a son, George A. Chretien, Jr. and his wife Susan (Flynn) Chretien of McDonough, Georgia; a brother, Omer Chretien of Fall River; a sister, Bernadette Littlefield of Westport, MA; 2 grandchildren, Michael Chretien and Megan Samadi; 4 great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Liberty and Joe Chretien and Sarah Samadi and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Albert, Norman, Hector, Leo and Bertha Chretien. Following cremation, a memorial mass will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM in St. Anne Church, So. Main St., Fall River. Visitation and flowers omitted. Donations may be made to Veterans Outreach, 1181 No. Main St., Fall River MA 02720.
