Fred Gregory Schick, 85, of Portsmouth, RI, died Friday, November 27, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Janice A. (Slusser) Schick for 60 years. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Fred and the late Josephine (Erb) Schick. He was an Electronics Officer in the US Navy during the Korean War. Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Bradley (Linda) Schick of Fairhaven, MA and the late Maria Ann (John) Walker of Fall River. Fred always said he had a very blessed life. Among the events he remembered best was receiving his Eagle Scout Award, graduating from Catholic Central High School in Detroit, Michigan where he boxed and played Varsity Football, graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1952, the fun they had playing golf, the joy of marrying Janice, the love of his life on May 7, 1955 in St. Louis Church, Fall River and the wonderful two years they spent at the Bell Laboratories in New York and New Jersey. The thrill of designing products for a start-up Electronics Company (Transcom) in Newport RI. He started as Chief Engineer and as the company flourished, became Vice-President of Engineering and finally Vice-President of Marketing. Fred was a Trustee at St. Anthony's Parish, Portsmouth in the 1970's. He was a Eucharistic Minister and he and Janice taught Christian Doctrine to children on Sundays for many years. He is also survived by a brother, James (Julie) Schick of Columbus, Michigan and the late Mary Ann (Arthur) Shmina of Redford, Michigan and several nieces and nephews. His funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Cathedral, Fall River on Wednesday, December 2, at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. At the request of the family there will be no visiting hours, but all are welcome to attend Fred's funeral mass.
