Frances (Wojcik) Czerwonka

May 7, 1919 — January 14, 2019

Frances Sophie Wojcik Czerwonka, a 99 year citizen of the City of Fall River, died January 14, 2019 of natural causes at the Catholic Memorial Home. Born May 7, 1919 in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Wojcik and the late Mary (Chrzan) Wojcik, one of two brothers and six sisters. She graduated from the Harriet T. Healy Elementary School in Fall River and hoped for a career in nursing. However, given the economic realities of the times, she was unable to pursue a further education. Instead, her life was dedicated to assisting her mother and older sisters with their household chores and raising her nieces and nephews. On January 15, 1949 she married the late Joseph P. Czerwonka, a communicant of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church. She was active in the church, as a member of the Holy Rosary Society. They had a happy marriage, raising two children, Elizabeth Nelson of Omaha, Nebraska and Atty. Joseph J. Czerwonka of this city. Her son is married to Assistant District Attorney Diane M. Bunk, and they had two children, Catherine Czerwonka Ganem of Tampa Florida, who is married to Jared Ganem, and the late Joseph Thomas Czerwonka. Although she worked in various jobs in the garment industry, nursing was her first choice as a career and she was able to realize that dream by becoming a nurse’s aide, working for a time at the old Clifton Nursing Home in Fall River. She is survived by her children and granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9 A.M. from the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main Street, Fall River, with a Funeral Mass at Holy Name Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River, MA. Visiting Hours will be held Thursday from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M.
