Florence M. “Flo” (Rocha) Rocha, 85, of Fall River, wife of the late Alfred Rocha, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018.
For over 40 years, Flo was a beloved “lunch lady” in the Fall River school system, first at Slade School and then at William S. Green School. After retiring, she volunteered at Holy Trinity School in Fall River, MA. Flo cared deeply for all the students with whom she worked. Whether she was serving them a meal, reading them a book, or helping them to zip a jacket, at the same time she was also teaching them that they are special people, with great purpose and promise. Flo’s mutual bond with the children she impacted was evident and she never stopped caring for them.
Flo spent her life teaching everyone she met the importance of faith, hope, and love. She was generous and selfless, always concerned for the well-being of those around her. She was also an avid traveler, whether on a European vacation, family cruise, or Vegas adventure. Whatever the circumstances, she could conjure a smile out of any person and a bonus out of any slot machine. Flo loved being with people; she liked to listen and absolutely loved to talk. After being diagnosed with ALS, Flo continued to be a model of courage, wisdom, and grace. She was especially devoted to the Blessed Mother and was joyful always.
Most of all, she was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. Married for 66 extraordinary years to her best friend and love of her life, Al, together they provided the foundation and example for how to build, care for and love family. Flo’s greatest pride and joy was her family.
She leaves two daughters, Ann Marie Connolly (husband William) of Little Compton and Brenda Gagnon (husband Paul) of Fall River; a granddaughter, Katherine Connolly Sadeck (husband Joshua) of Westport; seven siblings Catherine Lopes, Martha Texceira, Eileen Rousseau, John, Stephen, Daniel and Edward Rocha and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Frank and Arthur Rocha and the daughter of the late Frank and Aldina Rocha.
Her funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 a.m. from Auclair Funeral Home, with a Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Church, Stafford Rd., at 10:00 a.m. Burial, Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton. Visitation Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
