Fall River

Fernando M. Melo, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, in Fall River at the age of 71. Born on November 7, 1952, in Santa Maria, Azores, and raised in Relva, St. Michael, Azores, Fernando carried the warmth of his heritage throughout his life, touching the hearts of many with his kindness and passion.

For nearly half a century, he shared a loving bond with his wife, Isabel M. (Rodrigues) Melo. Their journey together was one filled with shared dreams and countless cherished memories. Fernando took immense pride in his family, raising his children with the values of hard work and compassion. He is survived by son, Steven Melo, and his wife Liliana; daughter, Jamie Fanning, and her husband Edward; and son, Richard Melo, and his wife Alexis.

Fernando's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Lyndsey Nadeau, Kendal Sheahan, Tyla Sheahan, Savannah Melo, Codi Fanning, Jesse Fanning, Cameron Melo, Isabella Melo, and Aria Melo; and his great-granddaughters Korah Maitoza, Mckennah Nadeau, Emmah Nadeau, and Evelyn Farley. He is also survived by his brother, Jose Melo, sister, Maria Sousa and a myriad of family that he loved dearly (nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in-law, and cousins).

His life was celebrated not just through his roles as a father and husband, but also through his career as a co-owner of Robert's Polishing in Olneyville, Rhode Island. Committed to his work, he forged lasting relationships that reflected his strong character and dedication.

Fernando was a man of many interests. A devoted soccer coach, he inspired and nurtured young athletes, fostering a sense of teamwork and sportsmanship. His playful spirit shone through his love for foosball and Sueca (Portuguese Card Game), where he created joyful moments filled with laughter, often surrounded by family and friends. In the quiet moments of his life, he loved to immerse himself in his hobby of wine-making, crafting a special recipe for Portwine that became a symbol of his generous heart and creativity.

He is preceded in death by his father, Fernando Melo Sr., and his mother, Maria Conceicao (Medeiros) Melo.

Fernando M. Melo's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and tradition. He leaves behind a family that will forever cherish his memory, guided by the lessons he imparted and the joy he brought into their lives. His spirit will linger in every gathering, every shared meal, and every game played, reminding us all of the beauty that can be found in love and togetherness.

His arrangements are private.
