She worked as a Seamstress in Fall River Sweat Shops and the big Fabric Mills for many years. After Charley died, at 60 years of age, she applied and received her Massachusetts driver's license. She also took over the managing and upkeep of two Tenement houses with several rental units and continued to live on the first floor of one of the houses. At the age of 92, she gave up driving and continued her daily visits to St. Anne's Church in Fall River for the morning Mass by walking several miles regardless of the weather, and did so well into her nineties.
