Fall River

Eduardo (Eddy) F. Furtado, 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after bravely battling Parkinson's Disease for over three decades. He was the devoted husband of Genoveva P. Furtado for 49 cherished years.

Born in Pedreira, Nordeste, St. Michael, Azores, Eddy was the son of the late Dinis Furtado and Maria Franco Furtado, and brother to the late Silvina Vigario of Vancouver, Canada. Eddy served with honor in the Portuguese army, bravely fighting in Guinea, Africa, before immigrating to the United States in 1974. He dedicated much of his life to Duro Finishing, where his hard work and dedication were unmatched.

Eddy was known for his infectious laughter, caring nature, and unwavering commitment to his family. A true patriarch, he delighted in sharing adventures with his loved ones, always ensuring no one was left behind. Family meant everything to him, and his warm smile could light up any room.

In his free time, Eddy was an avid Sporting soccer fan who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, from lazy days at the beach to indulging in his favorite ice cream flavors. He had a passion for home improvement projects and took great pride in his gardening, especially tending to his beloved fig plant and pear tree.

Eddy leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his devoted wife, Genoveva, his adoring children Lisa M. Furtado (and partner Daniel Pimentel) of Acushnet, MA, Nancy Bednarz (and husband Matthew Bednarz) of Somerset, MA, and son Steve Furtado (and partner Jennifer Hall) of Dartmouth, MA. He also leaves behind five beautiful granddaughters: Sydney, Madison, Emma, Khloe, and Gabriella. Additionally, he is survived by his brothers Joao Melo of Fall River, Michael Furtado of New Bedford, sisters Maria Delfina Resendes and Lucia Raposo, both of Fall River, and several nieces and nephews who adored him dearly.

A visitation will be held Sunday, May 19, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River.
