Edmond "Mitch" Machado, 85, of Fall River, passed away on January 28, 2018 following a courageous battle against a period of declining health. He is peacefully reunited with his beloved wife of 50 years, Claire M. (Martin) Machado.
Born and raised in Fall River, he was the son of the late Louis and Maria Nascment (Correia) Machado and the youngest of seven children. He began his 35 year career in education as an English teacher at Durfee High School, later becoming a music teacher and supervisor of instrumental music. He retired as the Director of Music Education and Performing Arts for the Fall River public school system and was elected a schools advisor to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
He was an active parishioner of Holy Name Church and participated in a prayer group. He loved theater, music and was an avid supporter of Little Theater. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He also loved deep conversations and spending time with friends and family. He leaves his children, Matthew Machado (companion Lisa Gravette) and Peter Machado (wife Michaella) all of Fall River and Julie Machado (fianceé Valerie Tavares) of Somerset. a granddaughter Sarah Machado(companion Scott Standring) of Freetown; many nieces, nephews and friends.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass at Holy Name Church at 10:00 A.M.
Burial, St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation,
Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Large parking area and barrier-free entrance the rear of funeral home.
