Costas "Steve" Giovanis

Costas "Steve" Giovanis, 88, of Highland Rd., Tiverton, RI, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Heatherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Newport, after a long illness. Born in Clinton, MA of Greek parents who came from Ioannina, Epirus, Greece and arrived at Ellis Island, he went to Greece as a child where he was educated, returning to this country to pursue his college education. He was predeceased by his brothers, Dr. Panos Giovanis, Dr. George Giovanis and Dr. Angelo Giovanis, all of Greece. The founder of pizza restaurants throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, he was know for helping many people of Greek origin to start restaurants and also brought many Greek immigrants through the naturalization process in those states for many years. An avid world traveler, he visited many countries. He will be sadly missed by his spouse and caregiver Phyllis A. Manville Depin and her daughter Patrice A. Depin, both of Tiverton. He also leaves several nieces and nephews in this country and in Greece. Funeral arrangements, entrusted to AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, Fall River, were private.
