Clinton Ambrose Pickett Iii

Reverend Clinton A. Pickett III, US Navy (Ret.) Age 65 of Tiverton, Rhode Island, died on Thursday, January 9, 2020 in the Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Clinton A. Pickett, III, son of Clinton A. Pickett, Jr. and Carolyn Elanor (Homan) Pickett was born April 7, 1954. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, and served in the US Air Force as a Civil Engineer at Zweibrücken Air Base and Ramstein Air Base in Germany. He married his wife Marianne in Zweibrücken, Germany. While in the Air Force he earned a Master's Degree in Engineering Administration at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. After leaving the Air Force, he pursued his passion in religious studies and graduated from Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota with a Master's Degree in Divinity. He then served in parish ministry throughout Minnesota and Iowa before being selected as Naval Chaplain. He served during the Kosovo War,  being assigned with the Seabees at Oxnard Naval Base in California, at Joint Base Marianas in Guam, at Newport Naval Station, as Protestant Lead Chaplain to the joint services at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, and finally retired in 2010 at the New London Submarine Base in Connecticut.

Clint was an amazing man who loved and cared deeply for his family and friends, and those whom he came into contact with throughout his life.

He loved adventure and in his free time sailing, hang-gliding, running, Parkinson's boxing, and reading. He was loved and admired by many for his quiet, compassionate soul. He was a man of deep faith and devotion and after his retirement he continued to contemplate and study the mystery of God and the life we have been given.

In the words of his friend Rabbi Avi Olitzky: "Chaplain Pickett taught me about the importance of balancing work and recreation, service and self-care, your ministry and your family and friends- that life simply must be in equilibrium. Even if you spend more time on one, the effort and intensity has to match in the other. I learned a lot from this man: Patience, Tenacity, Mercy, Faith, Service- and most of all, how nourishing the powerful wellspring prayer can be."

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marianne Pickett, his son, Alexander M. Pickett of Groton, Connecticut, his brother Mark and Joy (Nuesken) Pickett of Longview, Texas, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased in death by his parents.

His Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 15th at St. Andrew By The Sea at 11:00 AM, 182 Willow Ave., Little Compton, RI 02837. Burial will be private.
