Claire M. (Martin) Machado

October 28, 1938 — May 26, 2014

Claire M. (Martin) Machado, 75, of Highland Ave., Fall River, died Monday, May 26, 2014 following a courageous battle against a period of declining health. She was the wife of the former Fall River Public Schools Performing Arts Director, Edmond "Mitch" Machado. A High Honors Graduate of the former Mount St. Mary High School, she was employed by the former Fall River Trust Co., Bank of Boston and the Fall River Public Schools Special Education Department. She was a Charter Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a Salvation Army Food Program Volunteer, a longtime supporter of the Little Theater of Fall River, a Holy Name Parish CCD Teacher and was active in the Cursillo Movement. She enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Europe and "getting lost" on long drives. Besides her husband of 50 years she leaves 3 children, Matthew Machado of Fall River, Peter Machado and his wife Michaella of Fairfax, VA and Julie Machado of Fall River; a granddaughter, Sarah Machado of Freetown; siblings, Lorraine Silveira and Rita Cyr, both of Swansea and Raymond Martin of Somerset and nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Alberta (Desbiens) Martin and the sister of the late Donald and Norman Martin. Her funeral will be held Friday at 9:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass at Holy Name Church at 10:00 AM. Burial, St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation, Thursday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. In lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars, 200 Maryland Ave., N.E., Washington, D.C. 20002.
