Charles M. "Charlie" Moniz

Charles "Charlie" Moniz, 77, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014. He was the devoted and loving husband of Pauline (Vieira) Moniz with whom he shared over 60 years of life. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Charles and Gloria (Medeiros) Moniz, he was a lifelong resident of the area, making his home in Acushnet, North Dartmouth, and finally Westport. Mr. Moniz graduated from Durfee High School in 1955 and served in the United States Coast Guard until 1959. He raised his family in Acushnet, then moved to Dartmouth where he was Supervisor of the DPW until his retirement, which he enjoyed with his wife, children, and grandchildren. A former employee of the Campanella Corp. and L & S Concrete, he coached CYO Basketball and Youth Hockey and was past-president of St. Francis Xavier Parish Men's Club, Acushnet. Survivors, in addition to his wife include three children, Steven Moniz of New Bedford and Lisa Shoesmith and her husband John and Michael Moniz and his wife Kathleen, all of Acushnet; six grandchildren, William Shoesmith (wife Suzanne) of Marion, Adam Shoesmith (fiancée Julia Smith), Andrew Shoesmith, Joshua Shoesmith, Emma Rose Moniz and Hayden Charles Moniz, all of Acushnet; four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Adriana, Colin, and Charlotte; siblings, Madeline Romeo (husband Lawrence) of Orlando, FL, Helen Barrett of Somerset, MA, Gloria Miller (husband Robert) of Upton, MA and Lawrence Moniz (wife Kathy) of Cibolo, TX; a sister-in-law Barbara Griffin of Fall River; a brother-in-law Richard Vieira (wife Denise) of Raynham and nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM at the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River. Cremation to follow. Visitation, Wednesday prior to the service from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home.
