Catherine A. (Whalon) Lowney, 80, of Swansea, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at home. She was the wife of the late Thomas C. Lowney. Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late William F. and Susan F. (McNulty) Whalon, she lived in Swansea for the past 50 years. A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1944, she graduated from Bradford Durfee Textile School in 1947, attended Rhode Island School of Design and was employed by the former R. A. McWhirr Co. many years ago. An accomplished artist, she enjoyed traveling, was a founding member of the former Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Swansea and a 26 year volunteer for the Fall River Community Soup Kitchens. She was a longtime member of the Wampanoag Kennel Club and exhibitor of champion Kerry Blue Terriers. Survivors include 2 sons, Brian J. Lowney of Swansea and Glenn F. Lowney of San Diego, California; 3 sisters, Mary V. Toole of Lisbon, Connecticut, Frances A. Shea of Fall River and Susan F. Bibeau of Somerset; many nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. She was the sister of the late Ellen L. Kane and James H., John E., Joseph F., Margaret J, Anna F. and William F. Whalon. Her funeral will be held Friday at 10:30 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral Mass in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 530 Gardner's Neck Rd., Swansea, at 11:30 AM. Burial, St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River. Visitation, Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and barrier-free entrance to the rear of funeral home.
