Bernard O. Demers

December 5, 1925 — March 6, 2007

Bernard O. Demers, 81, of Largo, Florida, formerly of Fall River, Somerset and Swansea, died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Sun Coast Hospital, Largo. He was the husband of the late Marjorie (Gordon) Demers. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Henri and Regina (Lanois) Demers, he lived in Somerset, Swansea and Florida. A graduate of Assumption College and Northeastern University, he operated Demers Coal and Oil Co., Fall River, for many years. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of Amvets, Post 273, Largo, Florida, American Legion, Post 252, Seminole, Florida and the Lodge of Elks, Fall River and Largo. Survivors include a son, Paul B. Demers and his wife Maureen of Boynton Beach, Florida; a daughter, Nancy T. Gouveia and her husband Jeffrey of Somerset; 3 grandchildren, Neil Gouveia, Katelyn Demers and Kerrie McFeeters; 2 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Gouveia; 4 sisters, Therese LaFond of Pennsylvania, Pauline Dennis of Florida, Eveline Gauvin of Fall River and Jeanne Witkowski of Somerset; 2 brothers, Rev. Bertrand Demers of TN and alexandre Demers of Florida; his beloved friend, Charlotte Barrows of St. Petersbug and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jean Demers, Angela Mandler and Madeleine Donnelly. His funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in Holy Trinity Church at 10:00. Burial, Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation, Friday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and barrier-free entrance at the rear of funeral home. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to American Red Cross, 139 Main St., Cambridge MA 02142.
