Barry J.Dias, 72, of Fall River will be laid to rest in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA on December 14, 2020 at 2:00 P.M.( Funeral procession leaving Auclair Funeral Home parking lot at 12:30 P.M.) with full military honors befitting a heroic warrior and recipient of the bronze star for valor. Barry was the son of the late Joseph D. Dias Jr. and Marion (Hunt) Dias. He graduated from BMC Durfee High School in 1968 and enlisted in the US Army after his birth date, December 2nd, was the first date drawn in the military lottery of that year. He served his nation proudly in the Vietnam Conflict with bravery and distinction, twice risking his life during open combat to resupply his company with ammunition. Following his honorable discharge, Barry relocated to California where he lived and worked for 45 years. He was a long time employee of Medata in Irving, CA. He returned to Fall River in 2014 to assist in the care of his elderly parents. A natural athlete, Barry enjoyed all sports and was a fan of his beloved Celtics, Patriots and Red Sox. He loved music, attending concerts, Mini Coopers and travel, recently visiting the Azores to explore his family heritage. He was an avid reader, frequently reading two books a week which he would later donate to local nursing homes. He could frequently be found at his favorite coffee house, Thriving Tree, in Island Park where he had a reserved seat at the counter and was treated as an honored guest. A truly outgoing and colorful person, he is best remembered for his kindness and wit by the scores of friends and acquaintances he amassed during his lifetime. Barry is survived by his brother Joseph D. Dias of Baton Rouge, LA, his “sis” Sandra Parquette of this city with whom he lived, his beloved nieces Denise Bergeron of Baton Rouge and Erin Gilley of Tulsa OK and his nephew Jason Dias of Baton Rouge, as well as many other family members. Commitment services will be conducted by Fr. Crowley. Bearers at Barry’s funeral include cousins A.James, Thomas, Kevin and James Quinn, Mary Dias Stockard and his sister Sandra. Honorary Bearers included Uncles James and William Dias and cousin Connor Bellucci. A memorial service for Barry will be scheduled for a later date.
