Barbara Jeanne (Hamel) Ferreira, RN, of Tiverton, passed away at home on May 25, 2012 with her loving family and friends by her side. She was 56. Barbara was a graduate of Bishop Gerrard High School, class of 1974, and a graduate of Bristol Community College where she earned her nursing degree in 1976. Barbara was a Registered Nurse for over 35 years. At Saint Anne's Hospital she worked in several departments as a floor nurse, head nurse, and later as a nursing supervisor. For the past 15 years she was employed at Charlton Memorial Hospital as an administrative nursing supervisor. Barbara also received a certificate of Pastoral Care. She was revered as a mentor and leader in the medical field. Her love of music developed throughout childhood and followed her to study voice and piano for the past several decades. She was a vocalist in local Church choirs, participant in Community Theater performances, and a member of the Allegro Glee Club. She is remembered by her family and friends as an avid animal lover, a dedicated wife and mother, and faithful friend to all. Barbara leaves her two daughters, Audra Ferreira of Swansea and Andrea Ferreira of Tiverton; parents, Richard and Constance (Botelho) Hamel of Tiverton; siblings, Paula Shaker of Fall River and David Hamel of Fall River; two nephews, and a great-niece. She was formerly married to Dr. Carl J. Ferreira for 29 years. Her funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, followed by a funeral mass at St. Anne Church at 10:00 AM. Barbara will be interred at Notre Dame Cemetery in the Hamel family plot. Visitation, Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
