Audie Martin

March 24, 1924 — September 19, 2005

Audie (Orton) Martin of Blossom Road, Westport, died Monday, September 19th at Charlton Memorial Rehabilitation Center . He was the husband of the late Isabel Barnes Martin. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Clara (Orton) Martin and Charles Henry Martin. He was a graduate of Bristol County Agricultural School and New Bedford Technical Institute, at present known as the University of MA. He was a machine technician within the textile industry. His many and varied interests included antique automobiles, horses and carriages, poultry, gardening and Fall River history. He operated the Chauffeur and Carriage Alliance, supplying horse-drawn transportation for weddings. He loved to travel to Ireland and to visit with friends in England. He was a former member of the New England Bull Terrier Club, and the First Congregational Church of Westport, a member of the South Shore Antique Automobile Club, the Durant Club, the First Spiritualist Church of Canton and was an avid beekeeper. His interest in Fall River history encompassed both the textile industry and the Wampanoag tribe. He was a contributor to the historical information presented in a film by Claude Ladue regarding the last Wampanoag on the Watuppa Reservation. He is survived by a daughter (Gail) Elizabeth Hale, a son-in-law, Titus A. Hale, four grand-children, Sarah Hale of Burlington, VT, Kendra Hale of Somerville, MA, Rachel Hale of Kansas City, KS, and Brad Hale of Schaghticoke, NY. He is also survived by two sisters, Clara Stewart of Westport Harbor, Virginia Dupont of Fall River, a brother, Charles H. Martin Jr. of Westport, several cousins and many friends. He also has a surviving niece and nephew. A memorial service will be held at the chapel of Trinity Episcopal Church, 1 Blue Hill River Road at the corner of Route 138, Canton, MA on October 22, 2005 at 11:30 o'clock. Following the service a pot luck dinner will take place at his former residence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, P.O.
