Arthur Normand Picard, 95, of Fall River, husband of the late Martha C. (Houde) Picard, passed away March 4, 2018.
A proud Army Veteran, he served in the Philippines and New Guinea. He worked for many years as a baker at Terminal Bakery and eventually owned the bakery. He also opened up his own bakery, Picard Bakery in New Bedford. He was member of the Franco-American War Veterans, and was the Commander at the VFW Post 7, New Bedford. Along with Martha, the couple was the first husband and wife team to be the State Commander and President and the National Commander and President. He loved to bowl and was part of several bowling leagues in Westport, Somerset and New Bedford and coached the Junior League in Somerset for many years. He was a member of the Sharpshooters Club, New Bedford and was also a devout catholic. His hobbies included card playing, gardening, baking and cooking for family gatherings, watching sports and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Adelard "Del" Picard, Sr and his wife Margaret of Westport, Gertrude Picard and Julie Picard, both of Fall River and Virginia Swauger and her husband Michael of Westport; grandchildren Adelard "Del" Picard, Jr, Jeffrey Swauger Sr., Gerard Picard, Jean-Paul "JP" Picard, Monique Swauger, Nicole Picard, Jason Swauger, Richard Picard 15 great-grandchildren; siblings Alexander Picard of Washington D.C., Lucille St. Onge of Acushnet, Lucien Picard of NJ, Leola Gadbois of Fairhaven and Claire Lagesse of FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Angelique Swauger; the brother of the late Rita Rondeau, Alice Brodeur and Ernest, Aldege, Bertha, Albert and Gerard Picard.and the son of the late Arthur and Rose Alba (Cote) Picard.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass at St. Stanislaus Church, Fall River at 10:00 AM. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford.
Visitation, Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Arthur's name to the Westport Junior Bowling League, checks payable to WJBL, 236 State Road, Westport, MA 02790. Large parking area and barrier-free entrance at the rear of funeral home.
