Arthur Machado, 83, of Stafford Rd., Tiverton, husband of Cecelia (Medeiros) Vieira Machado, died Monday, October 27, 2008.
An Army veteran of WW II, he was a linesman for New England Power, owned and operated A and D Sanitation and A. Machado and Son Hydraulic Sales and Service and more recently engaged in small engine repair.
Presently historian and a longtime active member of the Tiverton Rod and Gun Club he had served in various positions and was a also a former member of the East Tiverton Volunteer Fire Department.
Besides his wife he leaves, 2 children, Dolores "Del" Gallant and her companion George Shepard of Fall River and David Machado and his wife Laurie of Woonsocket, RI; grandchildren, Carolyn Gallant, Denise Machado Rogers and Jason Machado; a sister, Anne Niemczyk of Connecticut; 2 stepsons, Louis T. Vieira of Somerset and David T. Vieira and his wife Janet of New Bedford; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his close friend and business associate Donald Bollin of Tiverton. He was the son of the late Duarte and Frances (Souza) Machado; the grandfather of the late Douglas Gallant and the brother of the late Mary Borges, Deolinda Bastek and Jack and Dolores Machado.
His funeral will be held Friday at 8:30 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in St. Theresa Church, Tiverton at 9:30 AM. Burial, Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visitation, Thursday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tiverton Rod and Gun Club, PO Box 115, Tiverton RI 02878.
