Anthony "Tony" Sarno

January 7, 1956 — February 1, 2011

Anthony "Tony" Sarno, 55, of 102 So. Main St., Fall River, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011. A talented Chess player and avid Yahtzee player, he enjoyed game shows, "Wheel of Fortune" and "The Price is Right" being his favorites, and had a keen memory for numbers and dates. He was also well known for his patience and sense of humor. Although he had cerebral palsy, he led a fiercely independent life, had authored many short stories and two novels, and was planning to launch an internet based retail business buying and selling memorabilia, cigars and ceramics. He lived most of his adult life in Fall River, having originally been born in Boston and then moving to Lakeville, MA. Tony had a small circle of close friends and a wider circle of people that knew him around town, where he would often be seen getting around in his electric wheelchair, with his helmet and sunglasses on. In his life he traveled to Italy as a young boy and Lourdes, France as a young adult. He leaves, siblings, Carmine Sarno and his wife Annette Fierro-Sarno of Pelham, NH, and Anna Sarno Ryan, MD and her fiancé Joseph Sylvester of Manchester, NH; a niece, Jenna Ryan, and a nephew, Michael Ryan, both of New Hampshire; and many cousins both in the United States as well as in Italy. He was the son of the late Michele and Vittoria (DiStasio) Sarno, both of whom were born in Luogosano, Italy who then moved to the United States just before Tony was born. His parents were the quintessential hard working immigrants, his father a carpenter, his mother a seamstress, who came to the USA not knowing a word of English and learned the English language promptly and well. Their strength, courage, and perseverance were traits that Tony mirrored in his own life. He touched many lives, and his beautiful spirit will be missed by many. Donations to United Cerebral Palsy, 71 Arsenal St.,Watertown MA 02472, appreciated. Private funeral arrangements entrusted to AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River .
