April 17, 1927 — April 7, 2025

Fall River

After a long and fulfilling life, Anne J. Bronhard passed away peacefully at her residence in Fall River, at the age of 97. Anne joins her beloved family in eternal rest including her parents, Julia (Zmuda) and Philip M. Sowa of Fall River, brother Edmund Sowa of Somerset, and sister Charlotte Alves of Fall River.

Born in Fall River, Anne was a lifelong resident of the city. She graduated from Durfee High School and later graduated from Thibodeau Business College. She became a licensed hairstylist and opened her own salon. After marriage, she dedicated herself to being a homemaker. A self-taught cook, several articles were published on her culinary talents. Anne's greatest passion was cooking. At age 97, she was still preparing delicious meals for her son and his staff.

A devout Catholic, Anne organized many successful fundraising events for charitable causes. As President of St. Stanislaus' Women's Guild, President of St. Stanislaus' Senior Citizens' Club and foundation board member, Anne shared the same philosophy regarding their parish and parish life. Together, these groups of volunteers dedicated countless hours to effect improvements in the community.

In her earlier years, Anne loved traveling with her family, with very memorable and multiple trips to South Beach, Florida. She visited Portugal, Hawaii, Bermuda, Las Vegas, and Aruba. Anne cherished the summers spent with her children at their beach cottage. She was a true retail enthusiast which reflected in her stylish outfits and impeccable appearance. She had a keen eye for spotting a bargain. At social gatherings, Anne livened up the dance floor, especially dancing the Polka embracing her Polish heritage. She had an appreciation for theatre and music. She played the organ and piano beautifully. Anne enjoyed a good Red Sox game, golf, and the excitement of the casino. She very much enjoyed being a grandmother.

Anne is survived by her three daughters, Joan Bronhard and Cynthia Bronhard, both of Fall River, Jayne (Jaye) Silvia of Acushnet (husband Richard Silvia), and her son, Walter Bronhard of Fall River; three grandchildren, Melinda, Stephen, and Dorothy. She also leaves behind her brother Philip Sowa and wife Carol (Philip) of Belleair Bluffs, her sister-in-law Helena Sowa (Edmund) of Somerset, her nephews, Michael and William Alves, her niece, Julia Sowa, and great-niece, Bridget Cardinal Alves.
