Anna (Vieira) Tripp Murphy, 96, of Fall River, died Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Tobey Hospital. She was the wife of the late John W. Murphy Jr. and former wife of the late Chester George Tripp.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Inocencio Vieira and Mary (Bizarro) Vieira.
Anna was known for her generosity and faithful service to her community. During WWII, she lent her support working at Firestone Manufacturing and Industrial. She was employed by Ann Dale Cookie Factory and Trina Factory of Fall River as a packer. Anna continued her life of service by volunteering at various local soup kitchens; translating Portuguese and reading to patients at St. Anne’s Hospital; and working at the Revival Thrift Store at the Westport United Congregational Church. Remarkably, having left high school at a young age, Anna received her GED at 59 years old.
She was an avid traveler, having visited each of the 50 States. She was determined to seek out adventure in life and even took a Hot Air Balloon ride to celebrate her 80th birthday. Anna loved her bible and was a previous member of LightHouse Assembly of God Church in Westport. She also enjoyed gardening in her free time. Above all else, she loved her family and cherished seeing her family grow throughout the years. Anna was known as a friend to all and welcomed anyone into her home without judgment. She was affectionately known as “Vo” or “Ma” to nearly everyone who knew her.
Anna was the mother of Charles Vieira (wife Paula) and Michael Tripp (wife Belinda), both of Brownville, ME; George Tripp of Fall River; Mary Lou Perez of Lewiston, ME; Janice Poirier (husband George) of Simsbury, CT; John W. Murphy III and Steven Murphy, both of East Hartford, CT; the late Cynthia Marie Gamache (late husband David), the late Theresa Arraiol, and the late Paul Murphy. She was the sister of William Vieira of Tiverton, (late wife Barbara) and the late Arthur, John, David, and Robert Vieira. Anna is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
