Alice (Thomas) Saber, 93, of Fall River, took her place in the Kingdom of God on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024. Born in Providence, RI to the late Saleem and Maliki (Samuel and Margaret) (Asermily) Thomas, she was the beloved wife of the late Elias Louis Saber, whom she married on August 25, 1950.
Alice graduated from Hope High School in Providence at the age of 16, and later attended Bristol Community College. She was employed at Brown University and at the Newport Naval Base before leaving the workforce in 1955 to start a family. Later, she helped to manage family businesses, including Kalco Aluminum Products and Village Coin Laundry. A faithful member of Calvary United Presbyterian Church for 74 years, Alice served as Trustee, President of the Ladies’ Christian Unity, and Assistant Treasurer, and she spearheaded many church events, especially those that included homemade Lebanese and Syrian foods. She also acted as church historian, authoring a brief history of the Church, An Odyssey of Faith, in 2005.
Blessed with great beauty both outside and in, Alice was admired for her strength, independence, fearlessness, and sense of adventure. She loved to entertain, to spend time with friends and family, to winter in Florida and Virginia, and to travel, especially on road trips. She and Louie enjoyed several cross-country journeys in their motorhomes over the years.
Alice will be missed by her daughter, Pastor April L. Saber-Assad, and son-in-law, Attorney David M. Assad; her son, Mark J. Saber, and his fiancée, Anna Lopez; her grandchildren, Samuel and Nicolle Assad, Jillian and Dr. Gavin Donaldson, Alissa Assad, and Alexander Saber; her great-grandson, James Assad; her sister- and brother-in-law, Gabrielle and Terry Tanber; her sister-in-law, Rosemary Saber; her daughter-in-law, Jean Saber; her godchild and niece, Sheila Dessert; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded to Heaven by her siblings, Ernest Thomas, Mary Coury, Joan Zainyeh, and Samuel Thomas, Jr., and by her in-laws, Charles and Lena Saber, Edna and Theodore Smith, Charles Saber, Jr., and Freda Thomas.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Service of Witness to the Resurrection celebrating Alice’s life at 11 AM on Saturday, December 7, at Calvary United Presbyterian Church, 216 Harrison Street, Fall River, MA.
