Alice (Pereira) Gallant, 97, of Westport, passed into eternal life Tuesday, November 16, 2021.
She was the wife of the late J.N. Raymond Gallant. They were married for 64 years.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late August and Mary (Rapoza) Pereira.
Alice was a plant manager for several years in the garment industry. Later in her life, she worked for the Veterans Office in Westport, MA and Citizens for Citizens in Fall River, MA.
She was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Rhode Island School of Design and Herricks Junior Business College.
A communicant of St.John the Baptist Church, Westport, when she was not able to attend Mass in person, she watched it on Catholic TV. She had a strong devotion to St. Therese of Lisieux.
Alice enjoyed sewing, knitting, traveling and cooking. Most of all, Alice enjoyed spending time with her family. Her home was open to everyone. She was an eternal optimist who was always willing to help those who were less fortunate.
Alice truly lived life to the fullest. She was an amazing woman. Shel Silverstein got it right… She was “The Giving Tree”.
She was the mother of Barbara Fontaine, Stephen J. Gallant, Patricia Gallant Cook (Husband: the late Joseph F Cook, Sr), and Lisa Gallant-Stanzione (husband Timothy); sister of August Pereira, Jr. and the late Beatrice Shaker; grandmother of the late Paul J. Fontaine, Kyle D. Remy, Joshua J. Cook, Alison M. Cook; step-grandmother of Angela Nunes, Timothy Stanzione, Joseph Cook, Jr., Heather Gonsalves, and the late Robin Silva; great-grandmother of Desiree Spofford, Hunter Fontaine, Carson Cook, Winston Stone, and Jaden Remy; great-great-grandmother of Jasmine and Jayden Spofford.
She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Her Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Saint John the Baptist Church, Westport, at 9:00 AM. Burial will be at Notre Dame Cemetery. All are invited. There will be no visiting hours.
