Alexander H. Johnson

Alexander H. Johnson, 86 years old, of Little Compton, RI, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Husband of 62 years of Jane S. Johnson. Born in New Bedford, MA to Henry C. Johnson and Alice Johnson.

Alex taught mathematics at Middletown High School for 35+ years. After retiring from teaching, he enjoyed helping others as a case manager at Bristol Elder Services. Alex graduated from New Bedford High School, and earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Southeastern Massachusetts University (now UMASS - Dartmouth), and a Master’s in Education from Bridgewater State.

Everyone loved Alex, he was the nicest, kindest person the world has ever known. He loved playing tennis and golf, sailing and skiing. If he heard music playing, he was the first one to get up and dance. Alex loved his Siamese cat, Yassou, who would relax around his shoulders while he sat and did his paperwork. He always looked forward to the weekly get together with the guys over coffee. He so much enjoyed cookouts and boogie boarding at South Shore Beach with friends and family. He also enjoyed swimming, and playing ball and ping pong with his grandsons. Alex was a well-known “grill-master,” and loved making bread and cooking Greek delicacies. Alex and Jane spent many winters in Florida, in Stuart and Jensen Beach, where they entertained friends and made new ones. 

Alex was predeceased by his parents and brother, Chris Johnson. Alex was loved deeply by his wife Jane, his daughter Stephanie, his son-in-law Kaushik Ghosh, and his two grandsons Andreas and Arnav Ghosh. He also leaves behind his brothers John and Nick Johnson, and his sister Pauline Travers. 

Visitation on Wednesday, September 4, Auclair Funeral Home, 690 So. Main St. Fall River, 2:00 PM to  4:00 PM. with Greek prayers at 4 PM. Repast at 4:45 PM at White’s of Westport, 66 State Road, Westport.
