Abilio Martins Filipe

Abilio Martins Filipe, born January 30th, 1939, in Feteiras, St. Michael’s Azores, passed

away peacefully on September 24th, 2024 at Saint Anne’s Hospital.

Abilio worked as an Environmental Service Specialist both at Charlton Memorial

Hospital and later at Saint Anne’s Hospital, from where he retired after working 15

enjoyable years. Before this, he was employed in the silversmithing industry, as a silver

polisher along with working road construction. Abilio’s work ethic was rooted in his

earlier life as well, having worked in a sugar manufacturing factory during his years in

the Azores.

His commitment extended beyond his professional endeavors; Abilio served his country

as a proud veteran of the Portuguese Army fighting in the Angolan War from 1961 -

1963.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 30 years, Maria Lourdes (Medeiros) Filipe, and his

children: daughter Dorothy Filipe of Somerset, son Michael Filipe of Fall River, and

daughter Susan Berlincioni of Hong Kong. His legacy continues through his

granddaughter, Elizabeth Ilda Furtado, and a grandson, alongside several nieces and

nephews who will remember him fondly.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maria Ilda (Martins) Filipe; his father, Manuel

Martins Filipe; his mother, Maria Concaicao (Tavares) Filipe; and his brother, Jose

Martins Filipe.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, beginning at 4:00 PM until 7:00

PM at Auclair Funeral Home, located at 690 South Main Street, Fall River, MA 02721.

Family and friends are invited to meet at the Auclair Funeral Home Home Monday,

September 30, at 9:00 AM for a procession to Santo Christo Church where the Funeral

Mass will be held at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at Notre Dame Cemetery.

Abilio Martins Filipe will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his steadfast

character, and love of music, which touched the hearts of many.
