A. Joseph Allard

March 24, 1931 — July 2, 2011

A. Joseph Allard, 80, of Fall River, formerly of New Bedford, husband of Claire M. (Messier) Allard, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, July 2, 2011. A meat cutter, he was employed by several area supermarkets, retiring from Grand Central Market in 1996. He later worked at Auclair's Market until he became ill in February. Mr. Allard served in the United States Navy and in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Joe was a longtime member of Notre Dame Parish, having served as a lector for many years. He enjoyed traveling to Aruba, Europe, and the United States, especially enjoying Nashville, Tennessee, the home of country music. He and his wife were always on the move with friends and family. He was a talented handyman who could fix almost anything, especially broken glasses and jewelry. He was a self-made carpenter who built a new kitchen with the knowledge passed down by his father-in-law. Joe was always repairing something, specializing in vacuum cleaners. Joe was a kind and gentle man, who donated blood regularly, whether someone needed it or not. He loved the sound of fire engines and could be found jumping into the car to, "follow that fire". He was a member of the Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus, Notre Dame Council. He was a member of Four Hands Around Square Dance Club and served as a lector at Notre Dame Parish. Joe is survived by his wife of 55 years, two children: Michelle E. Hoover (husband Wayne) and Roger J. Allard (wife Janet); four grandchildren: Nathan E. Hoover (wife Trisha) and Lauren F. (Hoover) Beverly (husband Tom); Edmond J. Allard and Deanna M. Allard. Also survived by 2 great grandsons; Benjamin Nathan Hoover and Andrew Thomas Beverly. His beloved pug Missy will miss him. Joe was born in New Bedford, a son of the late Eva (Clouatre) Allard and Albert Allard. He attended New Bedford Public School until he enlisted in the military. He was the brother of the late Cyrille Allard and the late Joseph E. Allard. Funeral Friday at 9:00 AM from AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 S.
